Created in recognition of the Dancyt family’s 75 years as Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba grocers, this acrylic painting was done in a manner to not only feature their original Third Street location and its founders, but to be a portrait of the neighbouring buildings as well as the river beyond. About this, notice the height of the far riverbank. It’s only with a view like this that one can understand how much the river’s level, since being damned, has actually been raised.
Some ask - What’s a Locker Plant. Back in the forties home refrigeration, let alone electricity, wasn’t as available as one would imagine. Filling a need the Dancyt’s put in a massive refrigeration, complete with leasable lockers, which allowed the area residents to store their perishables. Think quarters of beef, deer, moose, that kind of thing.
Others ask - What’s with the red and white pole. It tells those taking off and landing to not fly this low. Back in 1946 the Town dock was where many a famous bush pilot flew in and out of. Wings Aviation was one of several companies based there.
